This page lists the primary sources behind the answers on this site, and the industry organisations we are part of or rely on. We link to regulations on EUR-Lex, certification schemes at their own documents, market references where they exist, and the associations that structure this trade. If you are a counterparty, association or directory that links to us, we return the link here, that is how the trade has always worked.

Regulations and law
EU Regulation 2024/1157 on shipments of waste. The rules that govern how waste, including most feedstocks, may move across borders, with the plastic export ban from 21 November 2026. EUR-Lex
Directive (EU) 2023/2413 (RED III). The renewable energy directive that sets the targets, the Annex IX feedstock lists, the caps and the sub-mandates that shape every price on this site. EUR-Lex
Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 on animal by-products. The category system that decides what rendered fat may legally become. EUR-Lex
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste (PPWR). The recycled content targets that turn rPET and bionaphtha into compliance materials. EUR-Lex
Certification schemes
ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). The dominant scheme for EU fuel compliance and PLUS mass balance chains. Their document library is the primary reference for every certificate question on this site. iscc-system.org
REDcert. The German-rooted scheme serving both EU obligations and the national German bookkeeping, with its own chain of custody rules. redcert.org
Industry associations
GROFOR e.V. The German Association of the Wholesale Trade in Oils, Fats and Oil Raw Materials, founded in 1916. Sustainable Commodities is a member. GROFOR publishes standard trading conditions and runs its own arbitration tribunal. grofor.de
Standards and test methods
ASTM International. Publisher of the test methods and specifications cited across this site, from pyrolysis oil characterisation to biodiesel quality. astm.org
CEN (European Committee for Standardization). Home of EN 14214 (biodiesel), EN 15940 (paraffinic diesel) and the European standards referenced in every specification. cencenelec.eu
Directories and partners
This section is for the organisations that link to us. If you are a counterparty, association, terminal or directory with a link to sustainablecommodities.eu, we return the link here. Mail bart@sustainablecommodities.eu and we add you within a working day.
Why we do this. A broker's only asset is trust, and trust is mutual. The site publishes over two thousand answers for free, the least we can do is name the organisations that help us stay accurate.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a broker publish its sources?
Because a knowledge base without verifiable sources is marketing, not information. Every regulation we cite, every scheme we reference and every standard we quote has a primary source, and we link to it. Check us.
Can our organisation be listed here?
If you link to sustainablecommodities.eu and you are relevant to this market, yes. Mail bart@sustainablecommodities.eu with your link and a line about your organisation, and we add you within a working day.
What is GROFOR and why is it on this page?
The German Association of the Wholesale Trade in Oils, Fats and Oil Raw Materials, founded in 1916. Sustainable Commodities is a member, and their standard trading conditions and arbitration tribunal are part of how this trade runs.
Do you accept sponsored links?
No. This page lists sources we use and organisations we work with. If you want to advertise, buy a banner somewhere, this page is not for sale.
Which regulation matters most for feedstock traders?
Depends on your stream: RED III for anything entering the fuel chain, the waste shipment regulation for anything moving as waste, the animal byproduct rules for fats, and the packaging regulation for plastics. All linked above at their source.
Market news
Recent headlines from across the feedstock and renewable fuel sector. Nothing specific to this market has come through the wires lately, so this is the wider view. The links go to the publisher; we do not host or edit their reporting, and a headline here is not our endorsement of it. Scroll for more.

Who to ask about Sources and links
Just ask. We link to organisations we actually work with and sources we actually use. If you think your organisation belongs here, and you link back, mail bart@sustainablecommodities.eu. You get Bart van den Brug on the other end, same working day, in English or Dutch, and across the team also in French, Portuguese, Polish, Czech and Russian.
On how we work: on the feedstocks and fuels on this site we are a broker. We never take title, we do not trade our own book, and we are paid a commission on business that concludes. Additives are the one exception: those we also buy and sell for our own account, and we say in which capacity we are acting before you commit to anything. Either way you will hear it from us when the answer is no, or when your parcel is not ready for the conversation you want to have. A market read or a second opinion on a specification costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Happy to look at whatever you have, even if it is half an analysis and a question.
